Critical Sucess Factors: Learn to Fail
Why are people so afraid to fail? Most people think failure and success are mutually exclusive, but they’re wrong. It’s not uncommon to fail more times than you succeed. In fact, success is achieved more often than not through failure. Robert Hunt illustrates this beautifully with Thomas Edison.
Thomas Edison once mentioned to reporters that he had tried over 10,000 materials as filaments for his new invention, the electric light bulb. One reporter asked how the young inventor maintained his persistence in the face of so much failure. “Failure?” he responded. “I didn’t fail. What I did was successfully eliminate 10,000 elements which were unacceptable for my needs.”

Sail Through Adversity
I was lying face down in the water unable to lift my head. I had just dived in to the surf and without warning I struck my head against the ground beneath me. The sudden shock and horror expelled what air I had in my lungs moments prior. It wasn’t long before I gasped for air only to find water fill my lungs.
Misfortune knocks on everyone’s door. It’s inevitable. You can count on the sun rising in the east, setting in the west, and adversity to change your life. For some, misfortune only wears them down while others are luckier having learned something. How you confront your misfortune will determine your outcome.
